Grammy Award-winning artist Black Coffee is one of the world’s most sought-after DJs, with residencies around the globe. “I often joke that I’m paid to travel, because I could do the music part for free.” The South African native is also an acclaimed designer, winning AHEAD’s Best Suite Award last year for his work on Johannesburg’s Hallmark House and soon launching a collection of villas. “Everything is curated to showcase African luxury through art, interiors and furniture.” Here, the multidisciplinary creative’s favorite stays.

“The Saxon hotel is like my neighbor. When I’m home I go there when I want quiet. It’s an iconic place—before it was a hotel it was a house, and Nelson Mandela stayed there when he wrote Long Walk to Freedom.”

“Hï is my favorite place to DJ. I’ve had a residency there for a while. We’ve created a mood where people come knowing what to expect. It’s intimate and I feel like I’m playing to friends. This place is like home.”

“I just played a New Year’s Eve show in Uluwatu and stayed for a week. I love Bali because there’s nothing there. In my usual life there are things I have to do and people I need to see. But in Bali I have none of that. I just get a driver and go around to see nature. I get a bit of yoga in. It’s really my downtime.”

“Olbia Airport is so small you can literally just walk through it, but at the same time there’s great shopping you can do. They have a nice selection of sunglasses and spectacles. I’ve bought a lot of pairs there.”
