Flying to South America often presents the challenge of finding a comfortable and convenient airport hotel. For those traveling to Medellin—an increasingly popular destination among U.S. travelers—this can be especially daunting, as most premium hotel options are located downtown, a 45-minute drive from the airport.

Faced with a brutally early 6:40 a.m. departure and following my mother-in-law’s advice, I opted for Movich Las Lomas, just four minutes from José María Córdova International Airport (MDE).

Booking

Booking through Hotels.com was seamless, and I was able to redeem $45 in OneKeyCash points, bringing my total cost to $160.

After enduring a grueling two-hour immigration queue upon arrival from Miami, I was relieved to find the hotel’s complimentary shuttle, which operates every 30 minutes.

The driver greeted me warmly, offering a brief tour of the airport’s surroundings on the short ride to the hotel. Upon arrival, he helped with my bags and escorted me to the lobby, where two polite and efficient front-desk agents checked me in with a smile.

The Hotel

Unlike many sterile, forgettable airport hotels, Movich Las Lomas is a destination in itself. Set in a lush, forest-like environment, it is surrounded by vibrant gardens, towering trees, and colorful flowers, creating a tranquil and immersive atmosphere.

With its warm wood tones and stylish décor, the elegantly designed lobby leads to an open-air garden, where a lovely family of peacocks roam freely, adding to the hotel’s unique charm.

Guests can enjoy a stunning outdoor pool, an acclaimed full-service spa with wet areas, a modern gym, and a tennis court.

For those looking to explore, bicycle rentals are available, while families will appreciate the children’s playground.

The hotel also boasts two restaurants, Ébano and Pecai, serving local and international cuisine, a well-stocked bar, and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, ensuring a seamless and comfortable stay.

For guests leaving early in the morning, like me, the hotel staff kindly arranges a table with coffee, tea, fruits, and breads. This thoughtful gesture was especially appreciated during my 4 am departure.

The Room

I was assigned a two-queen-bed room in the hotel’s “old tower.” When I inquired about the new tower, the front-desk agent described it as more modern and upscale, though it was fully booked during my stay.

Although my room was located in the older section of the hotel, it was well-appointed and included a minibar and coffee machine, a flat-screen TV with local and international channels, plush beds with soft pillows and a cozy blanket, and a stunning view of the forest from the window.

The bathroom was stocked with Kúa-branded toiletries, a nod to the hotel’s spa. While spacious and well-lit, the shower could have used a bit more water pressure.

Dining

After skipping both breakfast and lunch during my trip from Miami, I stopped by the hotel bar and was impressed by its beautiful ambiance.

When I asked about a place for dinner, one of the many polite and attentive staff members escorted me to Ébano restaurant, where I sat feeling absolutely famished.

At check-in, I was encouraged to try the Angus Choice meats, so I followed the recommendation, ordering a Picanha steak along with a thin arepa with avocado as an appetizer.

To accompany the meal, I selected a bottle of Malbec from Catena, one of Argentina’s most prestigious wineries.

The dish arrived beautifully plated—perfectly cooked, medium-rare beef, garnished with asparagus, corn on the cob, grilled tomatoes, and crispy French fries.

The meal was not only visually impressive but deliciously executed, and the cool Medellín air made the Malbec even more enjoyable.

What I enjoyed most was the attentive staff, who always approached me with the utmost respect and inquired whether their service met my expectations.

Verdict

Movich Las Lomas redefines the concept of an airport hotel. With its lush surroundings, stylish bar, excellent dining, and 24/7 shuttle service, it’s ideal for both short layovers and extended stays.
