Aeromexico operates 21 Boeing 737-9 MAX airplanes, primarily serving key markets in the Americas, including Miami. The evening flight from Mexico City to this South Floridian metropolis offered a comfortable journey with attentive business class service.

Check-In

I checked in at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and the process was smooth, thanks to a friendly agent. My one piece of luggage was tagged with SkyPriority due to my fare class and SkyTeam status, allowing it to be checked all the way to Miami International Airport (MIA).

Boarding

Boarding began quite early; however, the plane was not ready. After queuing in zone 1, I scanned my boarding pass and proceeded down the ramp to the jet bridge, where I waited in line with the other passengers.

No announcements were made, and no reason was given for the delay.

The Seat

Aeromexico has equipped its new narrow-body jet with 16 recliner seats in business class, making it a solid choice for comfort. I sat in window seat 1A in the bulkhead, which offered ample legroom. Convenient features included storage beneath the center armrest, a remote control, a power outlet, and USB-C ports.

The most impressive aspect was the tray table, which could automatically rise from the side armrest at the push of a button. It also had a bi-fold design with a small panel that popped up to hold a mobile device.

The seat offered a generous 38-inch pitch, especially when fully reclined. In other rows, there is also a footrest for each Clase Premier seat.

The headrest wings are bendable, creating a cozy cradle for your head. Additionally, a small white pillow, a blue blanket wrapped in plastic, and headphones in a brown bag were already placed on my seat when I boarded. The individual high-definition screens were mounted on the bulkhead, and I used the remote control to navigate the extensive entertainment system.

The Flight

When all passengers settled in, the flight leader walked down the aisle, offering pre-departure beverages of water and orange juice. About half an hour into the flight, the crew distributed packaged snacks and poured drinks. I didn’t pre-order an entrée because the original version of the Aeromexico mobile app was poorly designed; it didn’t have a pre-order option, and I couldn’t even obtain digital boarding passes. A friend mentioned that there’s a new app called AMX 2.0 that should provide these essential functions.

Nevertheless, the flight attendant informed us that there was only one meal option: cheese ravioli. This Italian dish was good, although the sauce was a bit salty. The carrot cake served for dessert was a nice treat to end the meal. Another round of snacks was offered after dinner during this three-hour flight.

The friendly flight leader engaged me in conversation in the forward galley while I was waiting for the lavatory. I mentioned that this was my second time flying on a Boeing 737 MAX, and she reassured me that it was now completely safe.

The LED mood lighting created a relaxing atmosphere. While watching Disney Pixar’s Coco again, I tested the Wi-Fi, which was free for an hour after viewing a video ad. I managed to log onto Wi-Fi on my phone most of the time to message friends and browse social media.

Arrival

The plane landed on time at MIA and parked near the H gates, which Delta, the codeshare partner, typically uses. Thanks to Global Entry, I was able to pass through immigration quickly; however, I had to wait over 20 minutes for my checked bag to arrive on the carousel.

Verdict

The regional business class on Aeromexico’s Boeing 737-9 MAX provided an overall pleasant journey, thanks to the friendly service and the thoughtfully designed recliner seats, along with a multi-lingual in-flight system.
