Shangri La Offers COVID-19 Coverage to Its Singapore Guests

The complimentary insurance is available at its four properties in the Lion City for stays through June 30

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has announced complimentary COVID-19 insurance for foreign guests at its four hotels in Singapore. The insurance, which is underwritten by AIG, covers up to S$250,000 ($188,700) in emergency medical expenses if a guest tests positive for COVID-19.

Guests who qualify for the insurance are also granted an extension to their room accommodations as part of the coverage, which is valid for stays from now through June 30.

To be eligible for the insurance, travelers under Singapore’s Reciprocal Green Lane or Air Travel Pass programs must book a publicly listed rate at the following properties through Shangri-La directly.

The Hong Kong-based hospitality group said it is one of the first international chains to offer the service.

“We have chosen to start with the Singapore market as the Singapore government has been proactively relaxing travel restrictions in a gradual and calibrated manner and has highlighted COVID-19 insurance coverage as a key enabler to rebuilding traveler confidence,” Chan Kong Leong, CEO Southeast Asia and Australasia at Shangri-La, said.

In November the Singapore government announced it would offer travel insurance to cover COVID-19-related expenses. The policies, which range from S$30,000 to S$250,000 are available to all inbound visitors to the Lion City for a nominal charge.

Singapore has also announced plans to open a dedicated travel lane and bubble facility later this month to facilitate face-to-face meetings between foreign businesses and representatives of Singapore companies.
