Hilton Surpasses One Million Rooms

The milestone came with new openings in South Africa, the US and China

December 17, 2020

Hilton has reached a milestone in its 101-year history, surpassing one million hotel rooms thanks to three recent hotel openings in South Africa, the US and China. The three new properties are the Hilton Garden Inn Umhlanga Arch, Tru by Hilton Savannah Airport and Hilton Garden Inn Guizhou Maotai Town.

Hilton currently has a portfolio of 18 brands with more than 6,300 properties in 118 countries and territories. The group also says its global pipeline includes 2,640 hotels and over 408,000 rooms.

Hilton’s growth has been remarkable in a year when the travel industry is reeling from the COVID-19 crisis. In response, the hotel company launched its CleanStay initiative in June and the EventReady program in July.

In addition, Hilton Honors benefits have been extended through the end of 2021 and the qualifications for status have been reduced by 50 percent.

“It’s been a year unlike any other, but even in the face of incredible challenges, our Team Members and owners have proven that travel is an unstoppable force for good,” commented Chris Nassetta, Hilton’s president and CEO.

“Thanks to their grit and determination, Hilton has made a difference in the lives of so many and positively impacted communities at a time when our hospitality is needed more than ever – and together we look forward to creating even more meaningful memories in the year ahead,” Nassetta added.

Hilton now joins a million-room club that includes Marriott, with 1.38 million rooms worldwide at the end of 2019, Chinese group Jin Jiang and Indian group Oyo Hotels and Homes, both of which have also passed the one million threshold.
