New Canadian Budget Airline Will Operate from Vancouver

Canada Jetlines bills itself as “Canada’s first true Ultra-Low Cost Carrier airline”

Canada Jetlines, which bills itself as “Canada’s first true Ultra-Low Cost Carrier airline,” has announced that it will base its operations at Vancouver International Airport. Flight operations are expected to commence later in 2019. The airline will launch with a pair of Airbus A320 aircraft and plans to offer flights within Canada as well as to the US, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Canada Jetlines cited the airport’s competitive landing and takeoff fees and other rates, along with the fact that Vancouver International Airport is the second busiest air hub in Canada, for its selection as the carrier’s new base.

“The Greater Vancouver area population, cost to operate from the airport, and transit accessibility, linked with the enormous tourist attraction that Vancouver has, provides Jetlines with a massive business opportunity,” said airline CEO Javier Suarez. “Having launched more than 300 routes in my career with most of them out of primary airports, I have no doubt that the Vancouver Airport will offer Jetlines the opportunity to launch and profitably operate a large number of routes.”

The launch remains subject to licensing and other regulatory approvals.
