Marriott Sets Third Moxy Opening in Manhattan

The hotel occupies a new 35-story building in Chelsea's Flower District and features garden walls, an Italian restaurant and a rooftop lounge

Marriott’s Moxy Hotels will have a third New York location beginning next month. Moxy NYC Chelsea is open to the public March 8, and joins the Millennial-oriented brand’s properties in Times Square and Downtown Manhattan.

Its 349 rooms occupy a new 35-story building designed by Stonehill Taylor in Chelsea’s Flower District.  Features of the hotel are inspired by the location – there is an entrance through the Putnam and Putnam Flower Shop, and inside are floral displays and a three-story glass atrium with vertical gardens where a DJ will play in the evenings. Meanwhile four butcher blocks are suspended from the 12-foot ceiling in the check-in area, a reference to the nearby Meatpacking District.

Marriott calls it a “micro-room, macro-amenity hotel.” Bedrooms, designed by Yabu Pushelberg, have floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall windows. To save space, a writing desk and luggage rack can be folded up and hung from the wall when not in use.

Feroce Ristorante, Feroce Caffè, and Bar Feroce are the hotel’s three dining options, offering – unsurprisingly – an Italian-style restaurant, cafe and bar. Feroce Caffè features glass aeroplane hangar-style doors that can be raised to create an outdoor terrace, with access from the street or through the hotel. Bar Feroce will serve pizzas oven-fired in its garden terrace as well as cocktails. The hotel also contains rooftop lounge The Fleur Room, with views from the Statue of Liberty to the Empire State building.

“With the opening of Moxy Chelsea, the Moxy Hotels brand continues to boldly reinvent the hospitality scene,” said Toni Stoeckl, Global Brand Leader for Moxy Hotels and VP for Distinctive Select Service Brands at Marriott International. “When you walk into a Moxy, you know you’re getting a killer bar experience with fun, playful programming; an in-the-know crew; stylish and functional bedrooms; and experiential moments you’ll want to share with friends during your trip. Moxy Chelsea offers all of that, with a distinctly bold, New York twist.”

Moxy debuted in September 2014 with a Milan property.  It now has more than 30 hotels across North America, Europe and Asia, with 20 openings planned for 2019, including Paris, Nashville and Boston.

Rates start at the Moxy NYC Chelsea start from $159 per night.
