Delta Invests in Skywise To Predict Maintenance Needs

Delta is investing to keep aircraft performing at a high level.

The goal is 100% reliability by using Skywise, Airbus’ platform that tracks and analyzes aircraft operations and performance data.

Gil West, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer states:

“The time is right to invest in this technology …. Adding Skywise to our stable of innovative TechOps tools will support our teams in their work to improve Delta’s performance by the fractions needed to reach our ultimate goal of 100 percent reliability.”

The airlines’ TechOps team maintains over 850 mainline aircraft daily across the globe.  The efforts have produced some impressive results – with 248 days in 2018 without a single maintenance-related cancellation.

Delta TechOps has worked with Airbus since 2015 to create and develop the technology.  The two teams will continue to work together as new releases roll out.

“With a success rate of over 95 percent, our predictive maintenance program is just another way we’re building the world’s most reliable airline and providing a new standard of reliability to customers,” said Don Mitacek, Senior Vice President — TechOps. “Our incredibly skilled engineers and our home-grown processes for how to use data will continue to set Delta apart from the pack.”
