California: Most Well-Traveled State, Study Finds

Survey looks at marketshare and other elements to rank U.S. airlines

Upgraded Points LLC recently made a detailed analysis of the US airline market-share domination in North America, ranked and listed by factors such as passenger numbers and miles flown.

Not surprisingly, California topped the list for air travel in the U.S.

1. California – 80,625,570 passengers

2. Texas – 63,014,287 passengers

3. Florida – 59,603,905 passengers

4. Georgia – 39,724,476 passengers

5. Illinois – 37,686,992 passengers

6. New York – 30,626,628 passengers

7. Colorado – 26,683,796 passengers

8. North Carolina – 24,483,603 passengers

9. Washington – 20,456,161 passengers

10. Nevada – 20,127,801 passengers

Meanwhile, when it comes to the top U.S. air carriers and such significant numbers as Revenue Passenger Miles, Southwest carried the banner, followed by Delta Air Lines and American Airlines.

2. Delta Air Lines – 16% (106,062,211 passengers)

3. American Airlines – 15% (99,857,863 passengers)

4. United Airlines – 11% (71,722,425 passengers)

5. SkyWest Airlines – 5% (31,257,149 passengers)

6. JetBlue Airways – 4% (28,406,310 passengers)

7. Alaska Airlines – 4% (26,273,073 passengers)

8. Spirit Airlines – 3% (21,863,935 passengers)

9. Frontier Airlines – 2% (15,527,410 passengers)

10. Republic Airline (operates as American Eagle, Delta Connection, and United Express) – 2% (14,728,265 passengers)
