As previously reported by Business Traveller, American Express had reportedly signed a deal to develop the new lounge back in April. American Express yesterday confirmed the new lounge, which will be located after security in the Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX and accessible to Terminals 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
But new details also now have been unveiled, including the size of the lounge – 1,290 sqm – and an opening date of 2019, along with the lounge’s facilities.
The new Centurion Lounge will offer what American Express describes as a “tranquillity area” that features both brightly and dimly lit areas designed to allow travellers to adjust to new time zones. A spa and a family room, along with the brand’s other trademark amenities, will also be available and the lounge itself will feature “custom, visual wall installations”.
From the F&B side, guests will be able to dine from complimentary chef-created menus, while sommelier Anthony Giglio and mixoloist Jim Meehan have put together a list of premium wines and specialty cocktails.
Those looking to get some work done can make use of the lounge’s workspaces and high-speed wifi – the lounge also offers power outlets and private “noise-buffering” workstations. American Express Member Services Professionals also get access to on-site card- and travel-related services.
The LAX lounge follows announcements that American Express will also be opening new Centurion Lounges in New York’s John F Kennedy Airport and Denver International Airport (pictured above) next year. The company also opened its first Centurion Lounge in Asia at Hong Kong International Airport last October.
“Our Platinum Card Members regularly travel for work and fun, so we’re excited to soon offer our Platinum Card Members a place to relax, reboot and refresh in the busiest terminal at LAX,” said Josh McKay, vice president ant general manager of global benefits and services for American Express.
Access to The Centurion Lounge is complimentary for Platinum Card and Centurion members, who can bring up to two travel companions (or their immediate family for Centurion Members) with them at no extra charge.
Passes for additional guests can also be purchased by Platinum Card or Centurion members for US$50 per person.
