In January, Alan Cumming returns as the grand maestro of games, playing host on Peacock’s breakout hit The Traitors. “It’s an amazing thing that’s happened to my life that I didn’t see coming.” This season, fans can look forward to new twists with an unexpected ending. “You think you know what’s going to happen, and then the rug gets pulled out.” While filming at Scotland’s Ardross Castle is glamorous, “You don’t feel like you’re lounging. I had to sneak my dog in—but I do love my room!” Here, his favorite stops.

“I’ve been staying at the Chateau Marmont for decades—it’s my home away from home. It doesn’t feel like a hotel, more like someone’s cool apartment. I like things that don’t change—for example, they’ve had the same valet for so long. My bathroom in New York is completely copied from theirs, right down to the same tiles.”

Budapest, Hungary

“I love cities that don’t need to be validated by your approval. Budapest is like that. Gellért is an old Roman bathhouse in the center of the city, with all these lovely pools with different temperatures. In the showers afterwards I was feeling very happy.”

“I stayed at Fife Arms. Hauser & Wirth does a great job balancing the artworks inside. I met the absolutely nerdiest people in Bertie’s Whisky Bar. They told me to always have a drop of water in whisky as it releases the flavor, so I started doing that.”

Washington, D.C.

“I’ve been loads of times, and recently was there for a work trip. I hosted the .Org Impact Awards, which focuses on the Internet and community. It recognizes those making the world a better place. I also got to see my friend Ari Shapiro—we do the show Och & Oy! A Considered Cabaret together. I’m a vegan, so I love DC Vegan.”
