SkyTeam Introduces New Online Loyalty Benefits Calculator

Holding elite status with one SkyTeam airline can earn you perks such as priority check-in, lounge access, and extra baggage allowance on partner airlines. But figuring out which loyalty perks transfer can be tricky, with benefits varying between airlines, frequent flyer programs, and status.

Nineteen SkyTeam members airlines run 17 different loyalty programs, with 230 million members, the alliance said. So, to simplify travel for these frequent flyers, the airline alliance has launched a Loyalty Benefits Calculator on its website, SkyTeam.com.

How it Works

Travelers input their frequent flyer programs, such as Delta’s SkyMiles or Air France-KLM’s Flying Blue, their tier level, and the SkyTeam carrier they’re flying with. The calculator then shows them the perks they can expect during their journey.

For instance, a Delta SkyMiles Gold Medallion member flying with Korean Air enjoys benefits such as extra baggage, priority check-in, preferred seating, lounge access for themselves and a guest, priority boarding, priority baggage delivery, and priority standby and waitlist, among other advantages.

However, this same SkyMiles Gold Medallion member does not receive preferred seating when flying with Virgin Atlantic, which also does not provide priority standby or waitlist privileges.

Moreover, members of ITA Airways Volare and Kenya Airways Asante might not experience complete reciprocity with all partner airlines.

“SkyTeam’s new Loyalty Benefits Calculator puts clear information at customers’ fingertips, so they know which benefits they can enjoy and where for a smoother travel experience,” explains Patrick Roux, SkyTeam CEO.

SkyTeam cautions that the Loyalty Benefits Calculator is “for informational purposes only.” While the alliance strives to keep the information in the calculator up to date, it doesn’t offer any guarantee of certain perks. If in doubt, directly check the policies of the airline operating your flight.

The alliance’s Loyalty Benefits Calculator follows the success of the similar Carry-On Calculator, which allows passengers on connecting flights to check the hand luggage allowances of every airline on their itinerary.

Since launching in July 2023, the Carry-On Calculator has won recognition across the travel industry, including being named the “Best Digital Transformation Initiative” at the European Mission Awards.
