Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) will soon transform the in-flight dining experience for its passengers with the launch of a new food and drink concept namedFlavors by SAS.

In addition to launching all-new uniforms for its flight crew, starting on October 1, the new dining concept will offer a more diverse range of in-flight food and beverage options to passengers, featuring a variety of new dishes inspired by cuisines from around the world.

The new dining concept will launch this fall in conjunction with the airline’s new Business Class offering on short-haul European flights before being rolled out to intercontinental flights and SAS airport lounges.

A Shift from New Nordic to Global Inspirations

The new in-flight dining experience is set to replace theNew Nordic by SAS’ concept that was launched back in 2017. While the previous program involved a modern take on traditional Scandinavian dishes and delicacies, focusing on simplicity and local ingredients, the new one will draw inspiration from diverse global cuisines, ranging from Europe to Asia and the U.S. to the Middle East. According to SAS, the new concept will reflect the evolving tastes and demands of its passengers.

Enhancing the In-Flight Dining Experience

In addition to new globally inspired menus, the details of which have yet to be confirmed, theFlavors by SASconcept also includes a range of features that will enhance the flexibility and variety of the in-flight dining experience. This includes a tiered meal service, where in-flight meal offerings will vary depending on the flight duration and conditions, and a flexible dining approach that will allow the airline to mix and match different meal components between flights to ensure freshness and variety for its passengers.

Rolling menu rotations will ensure that meal offerings change frequently, so frequent flyers aren’t stuck with the same options each time they travel.

Commitment to Sustainability

SAS is also prioritizing sustainability with its new dining concept by emphasizing local ingredients wherever possible, reducing food waste, and using more compostable and recyclable materials to minimize the use of plastic packaging. The airline is replacing single-use items in Business Class with porcelain mugs, glassware, and stainless-steel utensils.

“While SAS has always been about bringing Scandinavia to the world, this new concept, Flavors by SAS, brings the world to Scandinavia, incorporating bold and diverse flavors inspired by Europe, the U.S., Asia, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean, said Aron Backström, Vice President of Product & Loyalty at SAS.
