Hyatt has launched its new Caption brand with the opening of the Caption by Hyatt Beale Street Memphis. The 136-room property is located on the corner of world-famous Beale Street and Front Street, part of the One Beale mixed-use development.

The new lifestyle Caption brand, which Hyatt announced in 2019, is designed to bring people closer together, allowing them to work, eat or socialize in comfortable, flexible, communal spaces.

The Memphis property is integrated into the historic William C Ellis & Sons Ironworks and Machine Shop, preserving the existing riverside brick and cast-iron façade that dates back to 1879. The use of upcycled material and local design vibe are part of the brand’s commitment to sustainability and emphasis on community.

The hotel offers spectacular views of the Mississippi River and city skyline, with Memphis experiences like the Orpheum Theater, the Memphis Rock n’ Soul Museum, FedEx Forum and Sun Studios all nearby.

The marquee on Front Street welcomes guests into Talk Shop, the brand’s reimagined hotel lobby experience. This culinary and social space is made up of the indoor lounge area and expansive patio and beer garden.

Food and beverage offerings include an all-day menu at regional favorites like Grit Girls Grits, Bluff City Mushrooms, Joyce Chicken, Home Place Pastures Pork and Grind City Brewing, along with The Hearth Bar’s assortment of freshly baked breads and the locally sourced grab-and-go bar.

Guestroom design reflects the culture of urban street-art with soothing hues of blues and greens highlighted by pops of color. Thoughtfully designed living spaces offer unpretentious comforts, and the in-room work/play area with its worktable, task lighting, and power outlets is separated from the sleeping area.

Hidden behind industrial sliding doors, the spacious, well-lit bathrooms are decked out with custom Memphis-themed wallcoverings, enclosed walk-in rain showers and large vanities. Eight riverfront suites offer step-out balconies with uninterrupted views of the Mississippi River and iconic M Bridge.

Technology streamlines the check-in, mobile key, and mobile-order food service experience. Guests will be able to access their rooms and key card-protected common areas with mobile keys in their Apple Wallet, without having to open an app or handle a traditional plastic room key.

“Caption by Hyatt Beale Street Memphis is a first-of-its-kind property that will offer conscientious travelers a true Memphian lifestyle experience,” said Sarah Titus, area general manager. “With memorable encounters that celebrate the sounds and lifestyle of Beale Street, we are proud to share with visitors and neighbors a taste of all the local culture and cuisine there is to savor.”

In addition to Caption by Hyatt Beale Street Memphis, the brand is set to expand its presence in additional metropolitan and downtown markets across the Asia Pacific region, with a scheduled opening in Shanghai later this year, followed by Osaka, Tokyo and Saigon.
