In a significant move just weeks after joining the oneworld alliance as a full-fledged member, Fiji Airways has announced its decision to adopt American Airlines’ AAdvantage program as its official frequent flyer scheme. This strategic decision is set to bring an array of exclusive perks and benefits to Fiji Airways passengers, enhancing their travel experience.
Under the terms of Fiji Airways’ expanded partnership with American Airlines, AAdvantage members will enjoy a streamlined travel experience when flying on the Fijian flag carrier’s extensive international network. New benefits for members will include priority check-in and boarding, free baggage allowance and seat selection, and enhanced reward redemptions.
The agreement will also allow Fiji Airways passengers greater opportunities to earn and redeem miles via the AAdvantage program, whether flying with Fiji Airways, American Airlines, or another oneworld partner airline, including Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Qantas, and Qatar Airways.
Until now, Fiji Airways hasn’t had a frequent flyer program of its own, instead allowing its passengers to earn and redeem miles through the loyalty programs of its partner airlines, depending on the flight. It does, however, run the Tabua Club scheme, which charges an annual fee to members in return for exclusive lounge access and extra baggage allowance but doesn’t allow for miles accumulation and typical redemption awards such as free flights and cabin upgrades.
However, once Fiji Airways officially adopts the AAdvantage program, passengers flying with the airline will be able to earn and redeem miles on thousands of flights across the world. An exact date for the adoption hasn’t yet been confirmed, but the latest announcement comes just three weeks after it was confirmed at the annual IATA general conference that Fiji Airways will become a full oneworld member in early 2025.
“This loyalty partnership marks a significant milestone, bringing together two renowned carriers to offer new benefits to millions of travelers,” said Andre Viljoen, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Fiji Airways. “We are excited about the positive impact this collaboration will have on both our airlines and our guests who will benefit from the exclusive perks.”
“With this partnership, Fiji Airways is set to gain access to a vast network of American travelers, potentially increasing visitor arrivals to the enchanting destination of Fiji. The allure of Fiji’s pristine beaches, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality is expected to attract a growing number of American tourists, contributing to the nation’s thriving tourism industry.”
Anmol Bhargava, Vice President of Partnerships at American Airlines, added: “We are taking our partnership with Fiji Airways one step further by offering our mutual customers the opportunity to unlock more destinations and travel experiences through the AAdvantage® program.
“We look forward to welcoming Fiji Airways customers into the AAdvantage program so they can experience all the ways we deliver on our commitment that travel is better as an AAdvantage member.”
