A new Escape Lounge has opened its doors at Portland International Airport (PDX), and unlike typical airport lounges that are reserved for elite frequent flyers and premium passengers, this new space is open to all for a fee.

The new space by Escape Lounges is the first-ever common-use lounge to open at PDX. This means that anyone can access it, regardless of the airline they’re flying with, which class they’re flying in, their frequent flyer status, or what co-branded credit card they’re using.

However, this doesn’t mean that anyone can just walk in; travelers will be charged $45 each for entry at the door or $40 per person if they book online.

The Lounge

The Escape Lounge at PDX features all the typical luxuries and amenities that elite passengers have come to expect in an airport lounge, including private seating areas ideal for business travelers, showers for those in need of a refresh between flights, free Wi-Fi and power outlets, a chef-curated menu with complimentary, freshly prepared hot and cold dishes, and a fully stocked bar. It also includes a dedicated kids’ area, and parents will be pleased to know that children under two can enter free of charge.

According to PDX officials, the lounge’s design takes inspiration from the city’s fashionable Pearl District, with light fixtures manufactured by local companies and artwork, pottery, and glassware designed by local artists. Food and beverage options also champion local producers, including Coava Coffee Roasters, Great Notion Brewery, and Oregon Fruit Company.

Location and Access

Located between Gates D8 and D10 and commanding views of the runway and Mount Hood in the distance, the 10,000-square-foot lounge is open every day between 3:30 AM and 11:30 PM.

“A high-quality, common-use lounge — like the Escape Lounges — is an amenity our travelers have been asking for and is the first of its kind at PDX,” said Chris Czarnecki, director of aviation business and properties at the Port of Portland. “We’re thrilled with the design that (parent company) CAVU developed, which offers a welcoming, locally inspired place for travelers to rest, relax, and recharge.”

While the new Escape Lounge at PDX is open to all passengers for a fee, some travelers are eligible for complimentary access. This includes American Express Platinum Card Members, Priority Pass cardholders, and Delta SkyMiles Reserve Card Members with a Delta Air Lines booking.

The new Portland lounge is just one of several Escape Lounges to open its doors in recent months, with other new spaces now open in Brisbane (BNE), Kansas City (MCI), and Northwest Arkansas (XNA).

In addition, new Escape Lounges are scheduled to open in three new locations in the coming weeks – in Edinburgh (EDI), San Juan (SJU), and Tulsa (TUL) – taking the total number of Escape Lounges worldwide to 28.
