Earlier this month, All Nippon Airways (ANA) announced some significant changes to their Mileage Club loyalty program, specifically regarding mileage redemptions.

The good news is that one-way award redemptions will finally be bookable, ending ANA’s long-standing policy of only allowing round-trip award bookings.

The bad news is that prices on many international routes are increasing, and ANA is ending its popular Round the World tickets. These changes come into effect for all flights booked on or after June 24, 2025.

Redemption Prices are Increasing

ANA remains one of the few airlines that use a fixed zone-based award chart, but unfortunately, the chart has become a little less valuable with price increases on some of the most popular routes in its network.

The chart for flights operated by ANA is split into three sections based on seasonal demand: low season, regular season, and high season. Specific dates within these three buckets can be found on ANA’s website.

Award prices for flights between Japan and every other region are increasing in all fare classes during the high season. For example, the new round-trip itinerary award chart between Japan and North America is shown below, which outlines what the old and new prices will look like from June 24 onwards. This includes a whopping 50 percent increase for tickets issued in business class. Ouch.

We see similar percentage increases during the high season for flights between Japan and Hawaii as well as Europe. Presumably, these changes are an effort to curb the exponentially increasing travel demand to Japan during the high season, which includes the dates surrounding the winter holidays, mid-summer, and Japan’s infamous “Golden Week” in the spring.

The silver lining is that low and regular season pricing will remain unchanged for now, so these increases can be avoided as long as you travel outside these popular date ranges.

One-way Awards are Now Bookable

While ANA’s award pricing has been (and remains) very competitive across the industry, one major constraint with the Mileage Club program over the years has been that customers can only book round-trip tickets with their miles; one-way redemptions have not been offered.

However, that is all changing in June, with the introduction of one-way awards on ANA as well as on their partner airlines, which includes the entirety of the Star Alliance network.

One-way awards will be priced via the same zone-based charts as the round-trip awards and will simply cost half of those mileage prices. Below is what the one-way award prices will look like between Japan and North America on ANA metal once the changes are in effect:

This is certainly a welcome update to the Mileage Plan program, and these prices will immediately become competitive once launched. For example, a low-season business class seat for a flight between Chicago and Tokyo will cost you 50,000 miles, which is a spectacular value compared to what you can find through other Star Alliance programs like Air Canada Aeroplan (75,000) and United Mileage Plus (110,000).

Even ANA’s high season rate of 82,500 miles on this route does not price them out of the market.

Round The World No More

ANA’s famed Round the World ticket has become a novelty bucket list item for many points enthusiasts, but unfortunately, this ticket offering will cease to exist on June 24.

The ticket offers the opportunity to hop around the planet on Star Alliance carriers, allowing you to build an itinerary of up to 12 flights and eight stopovers, all on ANA miles. While we are sad to see this go away, a small window is still available for you to book yours before it’s too late.

The airline has stated that “Star Alliance Round the World award tickets issued up to June 23, 2025, can be used as usual until their ticket expiration date, including any changes or similar factors.”

Flyers can earn ANA miles by crediting Star Alliance flights to Mileage Club, or by transferring American Express Membership Rewards points to ANA at a 1:1 ratio.
