Los Cabos Reopens this Week with Blessings from the WTTC

With the World Travel & Tourism Council’s "Safe Travels" Stamp of Approval, Los Cabos welcomes visitors to a post-Covid future

Los Cabos Tourism Board started its phased reopening plan this week, taking its list of already strict safety protocols to a new level and applying them statewide. The government of the state of Baja California Sur announced a new color-coded classification system to be given to local establishments, such as hotels, restaurants, bars, tour operators, and convention centers, that determine the level of safety they can offer and whether or not they are able to open to the public. The color categorization reflects the density and capacity levels of these venues as well as the establishments’ ability to follow the social distancing protocols that were previously announced and put into effect.

Adding to the assurances Los Cabos is ready to offer are the certifications from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). The prestigious global travel organization that is based in the U.K. has given the tourism board its safety stamp of approval that recognizes safe travels protocols. The board designed the specially designed stamp to  help international travelers know which destinations around the world have adopted global standardized health and hygiene protocols, so visitors can experience “Safe Travels.”

“A future where travel is not only safe and secure, but also provides authentic and meaningful experiences to all travelers is critical in our path forward,” said Gloria Guevara, President & CEO of the WTTC.

Los Cabos located at the tip of the 1,000-mile long Baja Peninsula south of California. The United States is Los Cabos’ top market making up 80% of all of its international visitors. As states continue to ease travel restrictions, Los Cabos is working with airline operators to resume travel connectivity to the destination following its phased reopening approach. On June 20, Los Cabos will start welcoming flights from Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, Dallas, Phoenix, Chicago, Charlotte, Houston, and Chicago with airlines including American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Delta, Southwest and United Airlines with Spirit Airlines returning in July.

On July 4, Eastern Airlines will launch its first direct flight from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Los Cabos operating twice a week. “This flight marks an important milestone for the destination as we continue to work on increasing airlift from the East Coast of the United States for the Summer and upcoming Fall season,” said Rodrigo Esponda, Managing Director of Los Cabos Tourism Board.

To celebrate the reopening of the destination, the Los Cabos Tourism Board, in partnership with American Express, is hosting its first live concert with the Los Cabos Symphonic Orchestra overlooking the Bay of Cabo San Lucas at Sunset Monalisa. The concert will stream live on Sunday, June 21, at 8:00 p.m. MST at visitloscabos.travel, marking a new beginning for Los Cabos in a Post-COVID era.
