Bahamas Blocks US Travelers

After a brief opening on July 1, spiking COVID-19 rates in the US and an increase of cases on the islands forces the Bahamas to once again exclude Americans

The Bahamas has announced that it will close its air and seaports to travelers from the US, effective Wednesday, July 22.

Making the announcement Sunday, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis said, “Regrettably, the situation here at home has already deteriorated since we began the reopening of our domestic economy. It has deteriorated at an exponential rate since we reopened our international borders.”

Canadian, British and EU travelers will continue to be allowed to travel to the Bahamas, but only if they provide proof of negative COVID-19 status at least 10 days prior to their arrival.

The country’s national air carrier, Bahamasair, has already ceased all outgoing flights to the US.

The Bahamas opened back to US tourists on July 1, mandating temperature checks and negative Covid-19 tests for admission.

Currently, US tourists are blocked from travel to most EU countries (Croatia remains open) because of nationally spiking COVID-19 numbers. Canada has just extended its border closure to Americans until at least August 21.
