United Announces Daily Boston-Heathrow Service
Start date has yet to be confirmed, but the airline says customers will be able to buy tickets “in the coming weeks”
United Airlines plans to launch daily service between Boston Logan International and London Heathrow. Although a start date has not yet been confirmed, the airline says customers will be able to purchase tickets “in the coming weeks.”
The carrier says the route will operate daily aboard a 767-300ER, configured with 46 United Polaris business class seats, 22 United Premium Plus seats, 43 United Economy Plus seats and 56 United Economy seats.
Departures from Boston will leave at 11:00 PM and land in London at 9:35 AM the following morning. The Boston-bound leg departs Heathrow at 5:00 PM and arrive at Boston Logan at 7:30 PM.
United says that the aircraft offers “the highest proportion of premium seats on any widebody aircraft operated by a US carrier between London and the United States.”
Prior to last year’s slowdown in air travel, Heathrow was Boston’s top international destination, and remains a crowded market on the route, with United joining American Airlines, British Airways, Delta and Virgin all flying between the two airports.
However some services may not currently being operating due to the pandemic which has caused the London hub’s North American traffic to plummet.
Nonetheless, United says that adding Boston-Heathrow to its network will make it “the only US carrier to offer nonstop service between London Heathrow and the top seven US business markets.”
Regarding when the new service might commence, Patrick Quayle, United’s vice president of International Network and Alliances, said, “We will continue to monitor the demand recovery and travel restrictions as we finalize a start date for this service later in 2021.”
