Southwest Tailors Fall Schedule to Business Travelers

Airline’s schedule anticipates corporate travels looking to “hit the road with a heightened focus on costs”

Southwest Airlines has released its flight schedule into the fourth quarter of 2020, adding new flights and routes the airline says are aimed at business travel.

Calling 2020 an “unprecedented year,” the carrier says its upcoming schedule was created “with our business travelers in mind, with a fourth quarter schedule that brings them new routes across the country,” according to Andrew Watterson, chief commercial officer.

Watterson said the airline anticipates business travelers “will hit the road with a heightened focus on costs,” as the economy recovers from the coronavirus pandemic crisis.

The newly announced schedule extends from Oct. 31, 2020 through Jan. 4, 2021, with more frequencies and more nonstop flight options from Phoenix, Denver, Las Vegas and Nashville.

In May, Southwest reported load factors rose to 25-30 percent with more customers booking flights than are canceling.

Said Watterson, “Never before has Southwest been more primed to emerge as the preferred choice of corporate travel as the business climate across America begins its recovery.”
