Delta Rolls Out Microbe-killing Security Bins

Delta Air Lines, in partnership with the Transportation Security Administration, is introducing new airport security bins with antimicrobial technology in automated screening lanes in Atlanta, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Los Angeles, New York-LaGuardia and New York-JFK.

The new bins are being rolled out starting this week and is continuing throughout the month. Delta says it will look at expanding the product to other markets following the launch in these cities.

Antimicrobial technology that is built into the bin prevents the growth of a broad spectrum of bacteria and continuously minimizes the presence of microbes throughout the bin’s lifecycle. The black color and indicators on bin handles help customers identify the new bins as their items pass through the security checkpoint.

This innovation is the latest step in Delta and TSA’s partnership to continue enhancing the health and safety protocols in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. The airline’s newly established Global Cleanliness Division is working with teams across the airline and with partners to advance safety and cleanliness as part of the Delta CareStandard. 

Efforts include blocking middle seats into January 2021, touchless check-in with the Fly Delta app, Plexiglas shields at check-in counters, distancing markers, hand sanitizer stations and electrostatic spraying at all of the airports Delta serves in the US – including electrostatic spraying in the customs areas of all international gateways.

TSA also continues to adjust its security operations with proactive and protective measures at security checkpoints, such as changes in screening processes and hourly cleaning of high-touch screening equipment and bins.
