Delta Drops International Change Fees
Carrier is also extending the change fee waiver for all tickets purchased through March 30 for travel at any time to destination
Delta Air Lines has announced it is permanently eliminating change fees for international travel originating from North America, effective immediately. The policy includes flights operated by joint venture and codeshare partners, however Basic Economy fares are excluded.
The airline is also extending the waiver of change fees for all US domestic and international tickets purchased through March 30.
In September, Delta, along with rivals American Airlines and United Airlines, dropped change fees on domestic travel permanently. The Delta policy covered travel within the US, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands.
Delta’s news follows a similar move by Amercan, which dropped its change fees on international travel last month.
Previously Delta announced changes to offering SkyMiles members more flexibility by dropping the $150 redeposit fee to cancel an award ticket and the $150 reissue fee to change an award ticket (excluding Basic Economy fares), and eliminating the 72-hour requirement to change or cancel an award ticket.
“No year has better demonstrated the value of flexibility than this one,” said Delta CEO Ed Bastian. “Our approach has always been to put people first, which is why we’re extending our current change fee waiver and making lasting changes to our practices, so customers have the trust and confidence they need long after the pandemic ends.”
